VERANO DE 1936: ¿POR QUE NO SE TOMO ZARAGOZA? by Eduardo Pons Prades. (Nueva Historia, num. 26 – marzo 1979)

The decision by the Central Committee of Anti-Fascist Militias, — skilfully manipulated by President Companys with the complicity of two ‘notable’ leaders of the CNT-FAI, Diego Abad de Santillan (FAI) and Juan Garcia Oliver — NOT to proceed to liberate Zaragoza in July/August 1936 was undoubtedly one of the pivotal mistakes of the Spanish Revolution. In this article (in Spanish), anarchist historian Eduardo Pons Prades, considers the causes and tragic consequences of this decision (and the light it casts on the subsequent ‘accidental’ death of Durruti three months later, in November 1936). An English language translation will be posted shortly. Click HERE for Spanish pdf. (First published in Nueva Historia 26, March 1979)
